Recent studies have shown that participating in mindful exercise like yoga and Pilates classes in Pilates classes pilates classes Pilates classes could boost your brain power and help to make you smarter.

According to one study by the University of Illinois, which was later confirmed by an experiment carried out at the University of Quinhuangdao in China, alpha peak power can be increased by participation in mindful exercise after just 10 weeks.

Alpha power is basically a measure of brain wave frequency and is primarily related to the hippocampus part of the brain, which is an area that is mostly responsible for learning and memory. Alpha peak power has been connected to neural network improvements and cognitive functions, as well as memory.

Pilates is an exercise which puts the focus on centering and control, and requires participants to clear their mind whilst focusing on their body and taking deep breaths. This will help to increase oxygen intake and blood flow to the brain, which in turn will help to release important hormones like serotonin and dopamine that have been known to improve mood and increase creativity.

The activity can also help to enable the brain to focus on the creation of new brain cells, known as neurogenesis, which is perhaps why many people feel more focused, creative and capable after they have just taken a yoga or Pilates class.
