Darcey Bussell stays strong with Pilates

Despite going up two dress sizes, Strictly Come Dancing judge Darcey Bussell has never looked or felt better – and she owes it all to Pilates.

The still tiny ballet superstar has gone from a size six at her smallest to a still tiny 8-10 after giving up her professional dancing career with the Royal ballet and allowing herself to enjoy plenty of chocolate. Although most women would be distraught at gaining weight, Darcey couldn’t be happier, because she is finally able to relax and enjoy life after the gruelling years she spent as a ballet dancer, when injuries and punishing training schedules were the norm.

Whilst with the Royal ballet, Darcey would frequently wake up in pain, her body having experienced extreme pressure. However, thanks to Pilates, the star has been able to heal her body, stay strong and maintain a fabulous figure – despite gaining a little weight in the process.

Speaking of Pilates, Darcey said:

“Pilates can assist your body. It can keep it strong and make sure you don’t get weak areas.”

Darcey first took Pilates classes in Pilates classes pilates classes Pilates classes whilst in training at London’s Royal Ballet School. From there, she went on to become the principal dancer of Royal Ballet in 1989 – when she was just 20 years old – and would remain with the internationally renowned company for the rest of her ballet career.

She believes it is her rigorous Pilates routine that enabled her to ping back into shape after the birth of her two daughters.
