Man City shot-stopper benefits from Pilates

Manchester City and England goalkeeper Joe Hart has recently revealed that he uses Pilates classes in Pilates classes pilates classes Pilates classes in order to help him stay fit enough to continue in the game as an ‘old man’ at the age of 29.

Hart has created his own health and fitness regime, which he hopes will help him stay at peak fitness and remain first choice at the team he loves.

As well as using Pilates classes to keep him in shape, Hart studies a range of other sports, including basketball and handball, which are useful for improving and developing the hand skills that are so important to goalies. They also build the hand eye coordination skills needed to make great saves.

Hart, who will be representing England as goalie in the Euro 2016 squad, and likely on the Pitch during their tournament opener against Russia on Saturday, told Manchester Evening News:

“I can’t just roll out of bed and perform like I’ve been lucky to do for so much of my career. I’ve had to change my lifestyle, begin thinking about diet. Before and after training I do Pilates on the reformer machine and strength sessions around that.”

He also referred to himself as being an “old man”, and spoke of his need to be strong and capable if he wants to continue training on the football pitch. Hart went on to mention his determination to be at his peak of physical fitness amid reports that new City manager Pep Guardiola is eager to have greater competition in his team’s goalkeeping department in the future.
