Pilates helped Debbie McGee to be Strictly ready

Stage performer Debbie McGee has explained that her amazing fitness is down to regular Pilates, yoga and gardening.

The 58-year-old has surprised everyone with her stunning performances on Strictly Come Dancing. With it being clear that she is fit and strong, this has prompted reporters to ask her about her fitness regime. When a Mirror reporter asked her about this, she said:

“Gardening keeps me trim, as does Pilates and yoga three to four times a week.”

Her first dance, a raunchy Paso Doble, was the first indication of just how fit and supple the widow of magician Paul Daniels was.

In the second episode, her Viennese waltz stunned the judges. Darcy Bussell specifically commented on the fact that she showed “no effort” and completed the dance with ease.

Only dancers with strong abdominals can perform the waltz well, as holding posture and creating the correct frame requires good core strength. Therefore, it is no surprise that professional dancers incorporate Pilates into their training routines.
