Pilates helps Serena Williams to fourth Wimbledon title

Serena Williams, who recently won her fourth Wimbledon title, has said that she has Pilates to thank for her new slimline look.

Williams, 28, is not only famed for her prowess on the court; she also attracted attention for her muscles and, in her own words, “this massive butt”. After winning the Australian Open in January, Williams decided to lose weight, and turned to Pilates for help. She said:

“I wanted to get really fit. I wanted to lose some weight. So I’ve been doing Pilates, trying to lean out my body so I won’t be bulky.”

She has always compared herself to her sister Venus. Speaking to Harper’s Bazaar, she said:

“She’s tall and she’s like a model and she fits everything. I was growing up, wanting to look like her, and I was always fitting in her clothes, but then one day I couldn’t.”

Her new fitness regime consisted of Pilates three times per week along with her usual training in the gym. However, if there was one thing that she refused to do, it was dieting. She joked:

“I don’t even know the D word – I can never turn down a good piece of cherry pie.”

Pilates has worked, however – she claims to have seen results within a week and has dropped from a size 12 to a size 10, with her famous rear end is now a great deal smaller.

Pilates is not just for professional athletes; anybody can benefit from it.
