Who goes to Pilates classes?

Are you one of the many people who believe that they can’t take part in any exercise programme because they are either too old, have a medical condition, are pregnant or maybe because you are a man? You’re certainly not alone, as many believe that to take part in exercise you need to be fit and healthy before you start, which rules out a large percentage of the population. Pilates classes are unique, as they are tailored to each individual and their circumstances. Whether you are pregnant, have a medical condition or just feel that you are of a ‘certain age’ we will create a workout just for you. Men are often wary of attending exercise classes, with the stereotypical male being seen at a gym lifting weights. A large number of athletes, sportsmen and celebrities take part in Pilates classes, strengthening core muscles in addition to helping recovery from injuries.

What are the benefits of Pilates classes?

Pilates classes are an excellent way to achieve a stronger, toned body. You will achieve greater flexibility, with more supple, looser joints. The exercises were developed by Joseph Pilates, born a sickly child who was dedicated to becoming stronger in body and mind, and encouraging others to do the same. Pilates classes are suitable for anyone suffering with an injury or illness, or who is pregnant as the exercises can be adapted to suit each individual. You will start to see an improvement in your posture and body tone after just ten sessions, which continues as you maintain the exercises.

What do you look for in Pilates classes?

A reputable Pilates instructor will be highly qualified. Our instructors have all trained with physiotherapists so that they know how to devise a Pilates class which is suitable for each individual. A professional body, The Register of Exercise Professionals monitors our continuous development and training to ensure our instructors are all skilled professionals. All our instructors are fully insured in addition to being affiliated to Fitness Professionals. The Pilates classes should be in relatively small groups, to allow you to learn the fundamentals of Pilates, before moving on to a more advanced group. Pilates classes are becoming increasingly popular with all ages and abilities, as more people see the immense benefits to their mind and bodies. In 1965, Joseph Pilates aged 86 summed it up when he said:

“I must be right. Never an aspirin. Never injured a day in my life. The whole country, the whole world, should be doing my exercises. They’d be happier.”
