Pilates helps dog recover

A six year old German Shepherd who was facing an almost certain death after she lost the use of her back legs has, thanks to Pilates, made a remarkable recovery.

Heidi was discovered dragging herself along the ground by her owner Samantha Bryce when she returned home one day. It was clear that Heidi was unable to walk and Samantha rushed her to the vets, who told her that, sadly, there was nothing that they could do to help Heidi.

Samantha was completely devastated and thought she was going to have to put Heidi to sleep, as she could not get up unless she was helped to do so and had to be supported at all times. Luckily, the vet suggested they could try a course of rehab. The chances were slim for Heidi but Samantha was willing to do whatever it took to make her dog well again.

Heidi started attending the Meadow Farm Canine Hydrotherapy and Rehabilitation Centre, where she underwent a course of hydrotherapy along with regular Pilates classes in Pilates classes pilates classes Pilates classes, which helped to strengthen her leg muscles. Samantha said:

“If it wasn’t for hydrotherapy and Pilates classes, Heidi would not be here today. She still has a slight limp and wobbles but she’s in no pain and is very happy.”

After only six weeks of hydrotherapy and Pilates classes, Heidi made a miraculous recovery and had almost regained the full use of her back legs, delighting Samantha, who didn’t think she was going to have much more time with her beloved dog.
