Take that, fat! – Gary Barlow stays trim with Pilates

Filed under: Pilates News — Wayne on January 19, 2011

Pop stalwart and Take That frontman Gary Barlow has spilled the beans on his battle with the bulge on national radio.
As the boy band icon, who found fame with the five piece in 1992, turns 40, he was invited to co-host a special breakfast show on Radio 2 with its usual host, Chris Evans.

When disc jockey Evans, 44, complimented the singer-songwriter on his physique, he pointed out that at one point in his career, he was a “proper porker”. Barlow admitted that during the wilderness years between Take That’s break up in 1996 and their reunion in 2006, his weight ballooned up to 17 stones (110 kg). One breakthrough came when he learned to control his portion size. He said:

“The secret to it is controlling your portions and knowing when you’re full.

“Another thing I used to do was to take a day off – I would usually eat what I wanted on a Saturday, and go back to my diet the day after.

“I eventually came to dislike doing that though, so I try and control my meals at all times.”

He also admitted that he would probably put weight back on if he didn’t exercise. When quizzed on what he did, he told listeners:

“I do some cardio and a little tennis. I also do lots of Pilates – I try to work out five times a week. I had to cancel a session to come here today!”

It only takes a minute to book a Pilates class in Pilates classes in Chorley pilates classes Chorley, Pilates classes in Clitheroe pilates classes Clitheroe or local to you. It’s generally acknowledged that it’s harder to keep weight off as you hit your forties, so it’s best to act now before the fat’s back for good.
