Dakota Johnson uses Pilates to stay in shape during filming

Dakota Johnson, the actress best known for her role in the Fifty Shades movies, has a figure most would be envious of, and Pilates is playing its part.

The 30-year-old American first hit screens at the age of 10 and is now a familiar face thanks to the Blockbuster movies alongside co-star Jamie Dornan. More recently, she has starred in Suspiria and The Peanut Butter Falcon.

Ramona Braganza is the trainer who helped Johnson transform herself for the Fifty Shades movie roles and included high-rep, low-weight resistance training and Pilates-based movements to sculpt her abs. Johnson did not need to lose weight or bulk up, because a lean, sculpted look was the goal, so Braganza opted for training similar to that of a dancer.

Once filming started, the fitness workouts continued, with Johnson’s trainer getting creative with a punch bag and a Pilates reformer chair installed in the actress’s trailer.

During an interview about her time training Johnson, Braganza said:

“When I’m on set with an actor who doesn’t have more than half an hour we have to keep the intensity up to at least 72%. It’s much better to do shorter and faster workouts than if you’re at the gym mostly walking around and talking, hardly moving your body.”

If you’d like to improve your tone and strength, then Pilates is a great addition to your workouts. With classes up and down the country from Lancashire to Preston, it’s easy to find an instructor and a class near you.
