NCIS actor uses Pilates to stay in shape during filming

Actor Mark Harmon, who plays Leroy Jethro Gibbs in the long-running CBS drama NCIS, recently revealed that he stays in shape by doing Pilates.

The 67-year-old actor enjoys a quiet home life with his wife of 31 years and doesn’t take to social media often, much like his sons. His passions lie with carpentry and home renovations more than going out to enjoy the high life.

He was drawn to Pilates after suffering a shoulder injury. He explained in an interview with Men’s Journal that under the care of a physical therapist, who was passionate about Pilates, he started doing workouts and talked of how challenging but effective he finds it. In his own words, when asked how he stays in shape, Harmon said:

“Pilates. It completely kicks my a**.”

Harmon is no stranger to physical fitness, explaining how he used to run many miles in a week in his post-college days, but that the control needed for Pilates machine work is much harder. Despite the challenge, his enthusiasm to share his success with Pilates speaks volumes.

Up and down the country, from Preston to Rochdale, many people are finding out how effective Pilates can be in restoring health after injury or just for general wellbeing. By strengthening the body and re-training it to function well, Pilates can help to speed up the body’s own healing mechanisms and reduce the chances of re-injury in the future.
